Osteoporosis is a common disease that causes broken bones, fractures, and spine problems in millions of people every year.  According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), it is projected that as many as half of all Americans over age 50 will be at risk for broken bones due to Osteoporosis by the year 2020.

But because the disease often develops with no apparent pain or other symptoms, many people are unaware that they even have it until they experience a fracture resulting from the condition.

For this reason, the month of May has been designated as Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month, which focuses on good bone health through prevention, detection and treatment of Osteoporosis. It is a time to educate the public about the causes, risk factors, symptoms of the disease, and the lifestyle changes that can lead to stronger bones in order to help prevent breaks and fractures.

Designed for strength, mobility, and stability, a healthy neck supports our heads and promotes nerve communication throughout the body. Most importantly, our necks house the arteries that transport blood from the heart to our brains, helping to maintain fully operational neurological and cognitive capabilities.

MILD: Can This Outpatient Treatment Help Your Lumbar Spinal Stenosis?

[fa icon="calendar'] Apr 24, 2019 4:07:54 PM / by Florida Pain Relief Centers posted in Lumbar Spinal Stenosis, LSS, Back Pain Treatments

Each year, lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS), a common chronic pain condition, impacts over 2 million patients in the U.S.

Commonly diagnosed in patients over the age of 50, symptomatic LSS is often triggered by age-related arthritis causing a narrowing of the lower spinal canal, or lumbar area.

In children and healthy adults, our vertebral disks hold a high water ratio that helps absorb the impact of movement on our bodies. However, as we get older, our vertebrae can lose its ability to retain water. As a result, the space surrounding our vertebral column may begin to constrict and degenerate, allowing the discs between our bones to put direct pressure on our spinal cord and nerve endings.

For many of us, achieving quality, restful sleep remains a challenge. Most Americans average only 6.8 hours of sleep a night, with a whopping 40 percent of us clocking in at less than six total hours.

For neuropathic and chronic pain patients, the struggle to attain sufficient sleep levels consistently can often reach new heights.

A 2015 poll released by the National Sleep Foundation revealed that those with chronic pain, on average, experienced a 42-minute "sleep debt," or gap between the sleep they need, compared to the amount achieved, while those with an acute pain episode experienced a 14-minute sleep debt.
